2009 Seattle Marathon

Lazarex Cancer Foundation - Team for Life was an official charity training program of the 2009 Seattle ½ and Full Marathon on Sunday, November 29th.

While many of us were lounging on the couch on Sunday, November 29th, still suffering from Thanksgiving Turkey Day food coma, over 12,000 runners laced up their running shoes and hit the streets of Seattle, WA for a 13.1 or 26.2 run!  It was the first time Lazarex brought a team to the event and it was a HUGE success!

All 28 participants completed the 13.1 or 26.2 mile courses wearing their Team for Life t-shirts with pride!  Caitlin Goetze was one of many runners competing in her first ½ marathon.  “Completing the half marathon was a huge accomplishment, not only for myself, but for something bigger than me. It seemed far-reaching but when I crossed the finish line it was a part of who I am. Making the choice to raise funds for the Lazarex Cancer Foundation was easy, and I was happy to do my part in raising funds. Those going through a bigger and longer journey are the ones to run for, and being a part of that work is a part of me now, too.”

Lazarex Cancer Foundation greatly appreciates all the participants who fundraised and took part in the event over the Thanksgiving Day Weekend.  Our financial donations are directly related to the number of patients we can help. It’s events like the Seattle Marathon that give people a unique opportunity to raise money! So thank you. Thank you on behalf of our patients and their families and friends, on behalf of the unlived lives that get more time, and the countless efforts to find a cure.

Here are the event highlights:

  • 28 participants raised over $15,000.
  • Most participants were local from Seattle, but a few drove up from Portland and one couple flew in from Connecticut!
