2009 Rock 'N' Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon

Lazarex Cancer Foundation - Team for Life was an official charity training program of the 2009 Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon

Exciting, inspiring, touching, and thankful are some of the feelings imprinted in our hearts by the experiences of this marathon. We raised awareness about Lazarex Cancer Foundation and we raised many new friends.

Our 77 participants raised $70,000 and counting. These numbers gave Lazarex the awarded position of top performer as a new “approved charity” for the Seattle Rock 'N' Roll Marathon. Our people came from New Jersey, Arizona, Canada, Utah, Massachusetts, California, Washington and Oregon. While they came to run and raised the funds to do so, many went home with a deeper sense of how Lazarex Cancer Foundation makes a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Many celebrated their own personal victories and grew from the experience. Here are some of the race highlights:

  • 77 participants raised $70,000 and counting
  • Top fundraisers were April Brixley at $4,000 and Joe Cieri at $3,085
  • 27 people reached the $1,000 – $2,499 incentive, qualifying for a Team for Life Jacket
  • Adam Jussel finished the ½ marathon in 1:30 – first time running in an event
  • Vic Horne finished the full marathon in 3:15 and qualified for the Boston Marathon – age 47
  • Jenny Wall’s mother did her 28th marathon at the age of 52 – Jenny had a Personal Best in the marathon, finishing in under 4 hours.
  • At the very lively pre pasta party Bonnie Lloyd spoke to the group about her experience as the wife of Lazarex patient Bill Lloyd. Sharing her story profoundly touched and inspired those who listened
  • We celebrated with a great victory party at the Spitfire Grill in downtown Seattle where we enjoyed good food and good music.
