Hope Starts Here - Wine Reception & Golf Tournament

Lazarex Cancer Foundation teamed up with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) for the 2010 “Hope Starts Here” Reception and Golf Tournament at Green Valley Country Club in Fairfield.  The hosted wine reception was attended by over 100 guests, including MLBP Alumni.  There was plenty of good food, photo opportunities and excitement at the raffle prize drawing.  Sunday evening after the reception, as clouds gathered and winds blew, we resorted to obsessively checking the weather forecast and whispering prayers.  Cherie McCammon, Tournament Director, while consulting Doppler radar made the point that it hadn’t rained on May 17th for 25 years! “Rain or shine” became the mantra for Monday’s shotgun start.  “Rain” it was.

Despite the rain it turned out to be a great day! Thirty-one teams, a scramble format, theme holes, silent auction, raffles and a spontaneous live auction grossed close to $85,000, net $35,000, for Lazarex Cancer Foundation.  Feedback from the players was tremendous regarding the course and their overall experience.  We are thrilled because, in addition to the funds we raised, we met so many people that were new to the Lazarex mission.
